Who Made the Mine So Successful?
The LTV Corporation had a big part in creating success for the Olga Coal Mine. The Corporation bought the Mine. Although they only kept it running for six years before closing it, the mine still did well while it was open. The LTV Corporation increased the productivity of the Olga Mine.
A group of industrialists bought the coal operations and town in 1947. They were the Youngstown Tube & Sheet Company, Interlake Iron Corporation, and the Steel Company of Canada. These companies, in turn, had a large hand in the Mine's success.
All of these companies constructed new jobs for citizens, produced supplies for Coalwood and other towns, and provided items such as housing, clothing, scrip for buying things from the Big Store, and more.
